Professional Scuba Schools Worldwide (PSS) Announces Director of North American and Caribbean Operations

After decades of global growth and development, PSS Worldwide, one of the industry’s most innovative and creative dive training agencies, is now active in North American and the Caribbean and has selected Derik Crotts as their director of training operations in this key market area.

“We are excited to be expanding to this region and thrilled that someone of the caliber of Derik was available to manage our operations here,” said Giuseppe Minopoli, President, PSS Worldwide. “His vast experience in the industry, along with his extensive background as a professional educator and trainer, make him the perfect fit for our expansion efforts.”

Crotts, has more than 35 years of governmental and international experience in dive training, corporate counseling, marketing, media relations, public affairs, law enforcement, along with sports communication and education. He is an adjunct professor in scuba diving emergency management and rescue for the Uniformed Services University for the Health Sciences, and also sports communication; sports media, law and ethics; and conflict management at Queens University of Charlotte. Prior to his current position in the diving industry, Crotts served as Director of Marketing and Communications for the National Association of Underwater Instructors (NAUI) Services Group.

“I lived in Europe for five years and have led dive leadership training there for more than 16 years,” said Crotts. “So, I have seen first-hand the quality of training, leadership, and facilities PSS Worldwide provides to the industry. I’m thrilled to have the opportunity to support the growth of the innovative and creative training programs of PSS in North America and the Caribbean.”

According to Minopoli, PSS has been waiting for the right opportunity and leader to bring its brand of dive training to the region. Crotts has planned and conducted certification training for instructors and dive operations at all levels, and with multiple agencies, throughout the United States, the Caribbean, Europe and Asia. He has served as either a course director trainer, instructor trainer, or instructor for NAUI, SDI/TDI, and SSI, totaling more than three decades of training experience.

“Over the past few years we’ve observed several European-based dive training agencies move into the North American market,” said Minopoli. “We know from their efforts that the market is looking for new ideas, along with more flexible, modern and economic training methods for their businesses. Derik is a respected and expert leader whose decades of experience training and living in Europe make him extremely familiar with our brand and the right person to lead our efforts there.”
