The dive staff at Fantasy Island are really looking forward to Project AWARE Week, taking place between Sept 14-22nd and hope that you will join us! We love to do our part to help the ocean and the dive shop regularly participates in beach and ocean cleanups. Our instructors promote and teach the Project AWARE Specialty Course (available even for non-divers!), Dive Against Debris and AWARE Shark Conservation Specialties.
As of 2016, we have also participated in “Adopt A Dive Site” where we do a monthly cleanup and survey of our favorite dive site “Missing Link”. The Dive Against Debris Distinctive Specialty can be done at any time of the year on it’s own, or as an elective dive for the Advanced Open Water Course. Guests will learn to remove, record and report marine debris and feel the satisfaction that they have helped to remove some of the trash that pollutes our beautiful oceans.
Along with the rest of our staff, we have Christopher Willey, a 100% Project Aware Instructor. All of our guests who are certified through him can receive a special Project Aware Certification Card! For the week of the 14th-22nd we have 2 ocean/beach clean ups planned for Tuesday and Thursday mornings with counting/surveys being done in the afternoons on those days. Make your dive count by helping to remove ocean trash the next time YOU get in the water!
