Specialized Publications, publishers of Dive Center Business and Dive Training magazines, announce the return of Dr. Alex Brylske to their staff as Sustainability Editor. Brylske’s role with Dive Center Business will be to address how dive operators can embrace the growing environmental awareness of divers in ways that promote conservation and advance their business success. His role with Dive Training will be similar but emphasize how divers can turn their love for marine environments into positive acts for change.
The magazines’ owner/publisher Mark Young says, “We’re thrilled to have Dr. Alex Brylske back on the mastheads of both publications. Alex brings a wealth of experience as a scuba educator and marine science professor. His work appearing in Dive Training and Dive Center Business will benefit entry-level divers and industry stakeholders alike.”
Dr. Brylske served as Dive Training’s Senior Editor for over 20 years. He recently retired as Professor of Marine Science at The College of the Florida Keys (formerly Florida Keys Community College), where he taught a wide range of courses in coral reef science and scientific diving. While there he also authored the first course on sustainable marine tourism in the Florida State College System curriculum. Using this experience, Alex has created an extensive array of diver-focused programs and resources on environmental education and “sustainable diving best practices.” He’ll address many of these topics in upcoming Dive Center Business and Dive Training articles.
“I’m fortunate that my career enables me to bring a unique skill-set to the table,” says Brylske. “And I’m confident that my tenure as an academic, coupled with my extensive dive industry experience, will help me achieve the ultimate goal of making divers and dive tourism an important and positive force in ocean conservation. Creating the position of sustainability editor is a new concept in the publishing field, and I’m proud that I’ll be the first in the diving industry.”
